Q.  HOW DOES THE MATCHING GRANT WORK?

A. GGAM uses matching grants to help families meet adoption expenses.  The matching grant is a commitment of funds by GGAM that is available to the family to the extent that the funds are matched by the family’s community.  Example: GGAM sends a family a letter of commitment for a $2500 matching grant – the family then invites their friends, family, or church community to help match GGAM’s commitment – the family’s community responds with $2500 in matching donations – the family then receives $5000 in assistance towards adoption expenses.

Q.  WHO QUALIFIES FOR A GRANT?

A. Christian Families – GGAM believes that the most important benefit of adoption to orphaned children is to be raised in an atmosphere that cultivates and encourages their personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Two Parent Families – GGAM recognizes the profound importance of the institutions of marriage and the family in the lives of children (see”CAN SINGLE PARENT FAMILIES QUALIFY FOR A GRANT?“)

Annual Household Income – Adoption expenses will challenge almost every family’s finances. Due to the profile of families applying, GGAM is currently considering families with annual household incomes of sixty thousand dollars or less.

Q.  WHAT KINDS OF ADOPTIONS QUALIFY FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE?

A. Most types of adoption (ie; international, private, etc.) that have significant associated expenses will qualify for financial assistance.  GGAM does not commit funds towards relative adoptions.

Q.  HOW DOES THE APPLICATION PROCESS WORK?

A. Step 1 – The family submits an application to GGAM along with the $10.00 application fee.  Applications can be downloaded from this site.  GGAM will acknowledge receipt of your application by mail.
Step 2 – GGAM sends a short, confidential, questionnaire to the references listed on the application.  Upon return receipt of reference questionnaires, the family’s application is ready for consideration.
Step 3 – GGAM’s approval committee meets every odd month (six times per year) to make decisions regarding grant commitments.  All applicants are notified by mail of the grant decisions.

Q.  WHEN AND HOW ARE THE GRANT FUNDS PAID?

A. The grant commitment is paid once a child (or children) has been place in the adoptive family’s custody.  The family submits documentation to GGAM for outstanding adoption expenses and GGAM then pays directly towards those expenses.  GGAM does not send funds directly to the adoptive family.

Q.  WHEN CAN OUR FAMILY APPLY?

A. Families can apply at any stage of the adoption process.  GGAM will inquire about your anticipated adoption expenses on the application.  GGAM does not commit funds towards adoptions that have already occurred.

Q.  HOW MUCH IS A TYPICAL MATCHING GRANT?

A. A typical matching grant amount is $2500, but can vary depending upon resources available and the number of families applying.

Q.  WHAT IS THE APPLICATION FEE FOR?

A. GGAM tries to cover postage, printing, and office supplies by requiring an application fee.  These expenses increase in direct proportion to the number of applications we receive.  This allows donations by ministry supporters to go directly towards family’s adoption expenses.

Q.  CAN SINGLE PARENT FAMILIES QUALIFY FOR A GRANT?

A. While recognizing the blessing that single parent families can provide to an orphan child, GGAM currently directs assistance towards two parent families.  With many families needing assistance and limited resources, we prefer to help place children in a family setting that includes a father and a mother.

GGAM considers its mission to minister first to orphaned children and secondly to adoptive families.

Q.  WHAT IF ADOPTION DONATIONS EXCEED OUTSTANDING ADOPTION EXPENSES?

A. If a family’s adoption grant and donations exceed their outstanding expenses, GGAM will pay the outstanding expenses, and redirect the balance of the remaining funds to assist other families with outstanding expenses.
